More snow pics and last day of Nosevember!

Wroooooooooooo! The Girl finally got herself a little more motivated and did some cropping on a couple of the snow shots from the other day. The snow is melting, melting, so the next group of pictures might just be of me having a bath.

So here I am, sniffing the snow.

Running away (The Girl's favourite of these pics)...

Coming back.

My furends seem divided pretty well down the middle on the issue of snow. That's okay, different strokes for different folks, that's what somebody once said.

I want to do a last-minute plug for Nosevember over at Bolo's bloggy. Today is the last day of the competition, so hurry over and make your guesses! Bolo and his Mom have worked pretty darn hard on this contest, and it's really been a lot of fun! (Even though I found out that I need to look MUCH harder at evfurrybody's nose! So if I seem to be staring rather hard at you, I'm just learning what your nose looks like!)

Finally, The Girl is getting ready to leave for her shift at the SPCA Craft Fair. I don't get to go, AGAIN. But at least she's helping raise money for the doggies and kitties and hammies and bunnies and birdies that haven't found their furever homes yet. Maybe I'll get something special for when she leaves!

My first snail mail Christmas Card, and The Snow is All My Fault

Wroooooooo, efurrybody! Hope all my American furends had a wonderful Thanksgiving with lots of eatables! The Girl said that the reason we had no turkey yesterday is that we celebrated Thanksgiving in October. I fail to see what that has to do with anything! We still could have had turkey!!

I got my furst Christmas card in the snail mail! It is from Simba. I was so ecstatic that I had to go Upside Down!

Please ignore the hooman leg and slipper at the bottom. The Girl says she's done enough secretary stuff for me today, and she refused to do any photo-editing. I am skeptical of this, however. The secretary stuff she did for me earlier today was stuff she had PROMISED to have done by Tuesday - writing on and addressing my snail mail Christmas cards! She FINALLY got them done today, and will mail them tomorrow. TOMORROW, Girlie!

I also got quite a few e-cards, which I will bark about in my next post. Hopefully tomorrow.

In other news, it is all my fault that it has been snowing since this morning. It was snowing when we got up at 7:00 am, and it is STILL snowing! That's NINE straight hours of snow! Very unusual for here.

The reason (The Girl) says it's my fault is because I just commented on Bolo's bloggy yesterday that we didn't have any snow. She likes the snow, but really hates how people drive in it. And she hates shovelling it, too. So she likes winters that are not snowy. Except for Christmas. She likes a White Christmas.

I, on the other hand, was SO EXCITED that I ran back and forth (like a maniac, according to The Girl) and back and forth and back and forth! I made The Girl take pictures.

Here's me on the way out...

And on the way back in....

Back out...

And me and Lexi on the way back in again. (Well, all you can see is my tail. The Girl sometimes misses the picture she thinks she's going to take.)

Khavana is the worst couch potato you can imagine. She didn't come out with us. She never does! She only wants to go outside first thing in the morning, and right after supper. She totally misses out.

Once I had done my running (I always have to race back and forth, and back and forth when I'm excited!), I stopped to smell the snow.

And then we have the series of pictures where The Girl was trying to get a shot of me covered in snow...

We didn't stay out long enough for me to get really snowy, though. The Girl picked up our newspapers, and we went back inside.

I have the feeling that there was something I was going to mention in this post, but I can't seem to remember it. My memory is becoming as bad as The Girl's! BOL!

The Girl is going to Vancouver for a furry quick trip on Wednesday. I told her that she should visit Sparky and Lizzie, but she says she doesn't think there will be time. She and The Roomie are going to a Great Big Sea concert on Wednesday night, and coming back the next day. I am going to stay with my Nanny and Papa overnight. I've never done that before, so I'm a little nervous. So is The Girl. She is really such a big softy. Always before, I've stayed with The Roomie when The Girl has gone out of town. But I guess I can't do that this time, since The Roomie is going, too!

So far, the plan for the weekend is for The Girl and I to go over to Nanny and Papa's for Saturday and Sunday night. The Girl has to work at the SPCA Craft Fair on Sunday, so she thought staying with them while she was gone would be a good way to ease into things. But she keeps looking out the window at the snow, and saying things like, it better stop soon! We have had a little snow once earlier this winter, but it was melted by noon. The Girl says hoomans drive really dumb during the first big snowfall. I think she's trying to get out of going to mail my Christmas cards.

There doesn't seem to be turkey again tonight. I am disappointed, because I made it clear yesterday that we can have turkey when it's not Thanksgiving! If The Girl leaves the house tomorrow, I'll tell her to stop at the grocery store and get some!

Thankful Tuesday

Wroooooooooo! I got some more awards from my furry good furends!

Mona and the Mommy gave me this award:

This award lifts our spirits, as do all of the others. We are in awe of the fact that we have so many wonderful bloggy furends, AND that they seem to love us as much as we love them! Wroooooo!

Ruby and River both gave me this one:

This one is one of the prettiest awards we've ever seen!

And River gave me these ones, too:

The Girl really likes the Perfect Blend of Friendship award, which says, Trust, Kindness, Honesty, and Sharing. We both love the Sharing the Love award, which is the only one we're going to post the rules for, because it's part of the award.

This award was created by a Mommy in honour of the donor of the heart that saved her son, Noah's life. Please drop by her site to read the story behind the award, it will touch your heart.

Organ donation is something that we really believe in. The Girl's nephew, Adam, had a liver transplant that saved his life. So we are proud to post this award on our site. The Girl says that once her spirit is gone from her body, she wants them to use anything of hers that they can, to help other hoomans. I wonder if they let doggies do that, too?

Anyway, here are the rules for the Sharing the Love award:

The rules of this award are: SHARE THE LOVE!!! Share this award with all those blogs out there that you love. All the people who make you smile. All those that make you laugh. All those that make your day. All those that leave uplifting comments on your blog. **All I ask, is that you include a link to this post with the award and ask your recipient to do the same**

Thank you so much to Mona and the Mommy, Ruby, and River! We cherish the awards we get!

The Girl doesn't know who has which awards, and she's TOO LAZY to look, so we're passing these awards on to all of our furends who haven't got them yet. Especially to Poppy, Tatum, the kitties and the woofie over at Misadventures of Me, Sparky, Kaos, Grumpy Bobby, and the Dughallmor Beagles if you furries don't have them yet.

The Girl has some kind of appointment soon, so she says I can't post any pictures right now. (Because she still hasn't uploaded them yet!) And we've got to go visit our furends' bloggies before she goes!

For all of our American furends, we wish you the happiest Thanksgiving! (I don't know exactly which day this week is the actual day, and The Girl is no help. She lived in Minnesota when she was a pup, so I don't know why she can't remember!) All our furends, have a very good week!

Math is boring

Wroooooooo! It's me again, pups and kitties! Can you believe it, The Girl is letting me post AGAIN today? And she's taken me around to some of my furends' bloggies to see what they've been up to, and she promises we'll see evfurrybody this weekend! (Well, at least the most recent posts, she's got us so far behind!)

Anywroo, last night, The Girl got out the DWB Holiday Card List, some paper, a pen, a calculator, and our bankbook. She said we had to figure out how many cards we could afford to send, and she just about fainted when she saw how much CanadaPost is charging for postage nowadays!

So, she was muttering to herself a lot. This is what I was doing:

because Cat TV was much more interesting than The Girl and all that math. (Please excuse the funny eyes; something's happening with The Girl's photo editor. Also, pretend you don't see the massive pile of recycling in the background.)

See how much more interested I am in Cat TV?

Then, The Girl made a funny noise. Kind of like choking, but flemmy (Girlie has a cold). I looked at her:

Here is a closer shot of the look that I gave her when I asked her what the funny noise was all about:

She said that unless I wanted to give up treats for the next six months, we can only afford to send 24 holiday cards. I was unimpressed with this news, as you can see:

Not acceptable, I told her.

But she took me through the math, and so I have to agree. (I can't possibly go without treats for six months, and I know none of my furends would want me to!)

We were going to send an e-card to evfurryone who is accepting them, and we're still going to do that. We were also going to send a card by snail mail to those who were accepting snail mail only. But at 96 cents for a stamp to go to the US, and $1.60 for the other international places, our little budget was soon stretched way too far!

So we chose 14 of our furends to send a card to by snail mail, along with 6 of the furries we don't know who live in the US and 4 of the furries we don't know internationally. (The Girl used a random number generator to pick, because she didn't know how else to be fair.) Evfurryone who is accepting e-cards will get one, too.

We are going to mail our paper cards on Tuesday. And Lorenza said that last year, she sent out her e-cards in the first week of December, so I think that's what we'll do, too.

I wish we could send evfurrybody paper cards by snail mail! I love getting mail, and I'm sure all the doggies and kitties and hammies and even hoomans out there love it to.

Even though I agree that the numbers say what they say, I am still not impressed with The Girl. Now she's ignoring me to write on the cards! This whole holiday card business is turning out to involve me much less than I like! At least I'll get to open the cards that come for me in the snail mail!

Have a good weekend, my furends!

Awards and holiday cards!

Wrooooo, my furends! Don't tell The Girl, but I think this makes it THREE DAYS in a ROW that I got to post!

We got some awards that we have to tell you about. The first one is from Sunny and Scooter, the Texas Sun Dogs.

(We'll get it on the sidebar soon.)

This award comes with rules, but they're pretty good:

The rules of this award are: SHARE THE LOVE!!! Share this award with all those blogs out there that you love. All the people who make you smile. All those that make you laugh. All those that make your day. All those that leave uplifting comments on your blog. **All I ask, is that you include a link to this post with the award and ask your recipient to do the same**

The other award we got is from Kess the Malaysian Beagle! It is the Gold Paw Award, and she wrote that we are a "human and canine with hearts of gold"! We are so touched by the award and Kess's words. They really lifted our hearts.

We have also been so touched by the words that all of our good furends have been leaving in our comments section! You are all WONDERFUL furends, and we are so thankful to have you in our lives. The furends we've made on DWB are the best of all possible furends!

That's why we are passing these two awards on to all of you! We've given out the Gold Paw before, but if you don't have it, please take it! And the Sharing the Love award, that's for each and evfurry one of you!

The other thing I wanted to write about today is our HOLIDAY CARDS!!!! I am so excited about the Holiday Card exchange that my tail is about to fall off! We have shared some pictures from Christmases past with you, and many pictures from this fall that didn't make the cut. I have cleverly kept back the picture we did go with, but you'll all get to see it soon!

The Girl is making our cards this year. (She is craft-impaired, so please don't expect too much, especially our artistically inclined furends! They are crafted with love, though!) The Girl says we don't have a lot of money for stamps, so we're not sure how many we'll send through snail mail. (Girlie says at least 30, hopefully 40.) But we both agreed that we want evfurry doggy and kitty on the list (and the ones that we know that aren't on the list) to get something from us, so we're going to send email cards to evfurryone else!

We're aiming to get our cards in the snail mail thing, whatever that means, on Monday or Tuesday at the latest. But we don't know when to send the email ones. Bolo asked this question on his bloggy, too, and said they thought not before Dec. 1st. Does anydoggy or kitty know when the best time to send the email cards would be?

Finally, a picture to share.

It's a little blurry, but The Girl likes it. (She calls it Foot and Tail... I say, DUH!) We're uploading other pictures, but it's taking a long time to get them moved from the card to the computer. So hopefully, tomorrow there will be LOTS of pictures!

Yikes, we didn't mean to make you worry!

Wroooo, everypuppy and kitty! Dannan again, TWO days in a ROW!

First things first. When The Girl typed for me yesterday, I think we were both influenced by a very low mood. (Not mine, but hers!) I suggested to her that maybe we won't post when we're (read: she's) in that kind of head space. We'll wait until it's passed a little bit, so we're (read: she's) not so gloomy!

Many of our good furends are worried about The Girl, and we didn't want yesterday's post to make people even more worried! Yesterday, The Girl got some news about one of our furry dear (offline) furends, and everything seemed very bleak. Today, because she's got a little perspective, The Girl feels better.

I'll tell you a little secret about My Girlie. She always wants to fix things for the people she loves! But there's lots of times that she can't, and all she can do is support them until they figure out what they want to do. She gets furry agitated at not being able to fix it, though!

Here's another thing. The Girl has some things in the works that she's doing to make her own life better (she says it will make my life better too, so I'm thinking it involves more trips to the dog park, or more bully sticks, or something), but now it's got to go on hold for a while. So she's just got to bear with the things she wants to change, just until it's right to make them happen.

There, I hope efurrybody feels a little less worried now! The Girl is supporting our furend, and working on being patient (she's not furry good at that, either!). Things will all work out eventually, my Nanny says. And Nannys know efurrything.

Today, I want to share some pictures from Christmases past. (The Girl still hasn't uploaded the ones from yesterday.)

These are from a couple of years ago. This is me, with antlers. Note the sheer panic. (The Girl felt very bad. Now she wears the antlers and I don't have to.)

This is a happier picture, although my Laser Eyes are speaking volumes.

And here are a couple more from this year's photoshoot at Nanny's house. I am snoofling in the leaves. Sometimes, The Girl scatters kibble or treats in the leaves and I get to find them. None in the leaves that day, though!

I'm taking furry good care of The Girl, so please try not to worry, my furends!

Do they sell opposable thumbs on ebay???

Wrooooo, it's Dannan and I'm still alive!

I know lots of my furends have been wondering what has happened to me lately. No bloggy posts. No comments on furends' bloggies.

Well, it's all The Girl's fault.

To her credit, she has taken me to the dog park and for visits. We've even been walking. (She took pictures today, but hasn't uploaded them yet.)

But no computer time for me. I haven't been much around bloggyland lately. She's been letting me go to Bolo's site for the Nose Expose, but that's about it.

The problem is that The Girl has a major ongoing issue in her life, and it just keeps getting more and more complicated. And she's not coping especially well. I don't get it, it's hooman stuff, but I do know that she's pretty torn up about things.

Today, things got infinitely more complicated, she says. She says she'd like to write about it, but that it's really not appropriate. Hmmm, the only time she tells me I'm doing something inappropriate, I'm sniffing some hooman's crotch. With my paw on their thigh. So I don't really get what's inappropriate for her, she's not sniffing anybody there.

So The Girl sends her apologies and her love to all our bloggy furends. And I send mine, too. Our Google Reader says we're at 1000+ new posts to read, so we're really behind.

On the bright side, I'm going to post some of the other pictures The Girl took of me when we were trying to get our Christmas picture. None of them are the one she picked for our holiday card, so you'll have to wait to see that one!

(The Girl also says that Canada Post is on strike, so she's hoping that it'll all get settled so that our cards will get out on time. It better, that's all I have to say. And also, that Girlie needs to get cracking on making them, or it won't matter!)

Don't worry, furends, about The Girl. This issue is a long-term one, and because it only seems to be getting worse, it's going to be around for a while.

Instead, worry about me! BOL, just kidding! I'm actually having a lot of Adventures (not that you'd know, because I never get to blog anymore!) and taking care of my Girlie. I'm going to try in the next couple of days to get her to post the pictures we took today. Brown dog kisses, and wrooooo-ey love to all my furends! I'm thinking about you, even if we're not getting to your bloggy!

Lest we forget...

It is Remembrance Day in Canada, the day we remember our veterans, our peacekeepers, and the others who serve as the guardians of our liberty and way of life.

In school, we always recited In Flanders Fields:

In Flanders Fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe,
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch, be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Written by Lieutenant-Colonel John McCrae, Canadian Medical Corps, World War I

This poem always brings me to tears.

To all who have served, past, present and future, thank you. We will remember you, and the sacrifices you have made for us.

Finally, I get to post again!

Wrooo, everypuppy and kitty! I'm finally back to post on the bloggy!

It's been really boring lately. The Girl says there is an ongoing situation in our lives that she can't do anything about, but she's very unhappy and stressed about it. I have no idea what she's talking about, but she's sure having trouble. We haven't done much lately, and I was starting to get stir-crazy! There's only so much cuddling a dog can do, even if he is a cuddle-monster.

Yesterday, The Girl told me we were going in the car on an Adventure! I was very excited, and wrooooed at Girlie to hurry up. We got into my car, and off we went. We ended up at someplace called Walmart, whatever that is. The Girl disappeared for a bit, leaving me with a chicken strip to devour.

She came back, and we went to see my Nanny and my Papa! I haven't seen them in quite some time. We didn't take the camera, so no pictures. We had a good visit, and I got to meet their new neighbour doggies! Trucker is a great big black lab, and he has a little sibling, who is a Yorkie. We don't know that doggy's name, but boy was it fun to bark all together!

Did The Girl tell you how I saved our lives and the house yesterday? Silly Girlie left the oven on. I had to pester her until she turned it off. She's really not that good at communication, honestly. It was plain as day what I was telling her, but she just didn't get it.

The other thing we did yesterday was to go outside together. I really like it when The Girl comes outside to watch me do my thing. (Not my business, that's a whole other issue.) It was pretty icky and cold and windy, and it had rained most of the morning. But it wasn't raining, so The Girl said we should go out while we had the chance. (Rain is EVIL; it makes little brown dogs melt.)

So we were outside. The Girl had the camera, so there are a few pictures to share.

There was a smell that was captivating.

The Girl also took a picture of my feets, to illustrate the way I balance on my three leggies.

Me, looking handsome.

Sitting and waiting for The Girl to decide she was ready to go back into the house. It was cold!

Another picture of me being handsome.

It was so cold outside that I started shivering a bit. I was happy when The Girl asked me if I was cold and if I wanted to go back in the house. I jumped right up and headed for the door. It would have been rude of me to suggest going in, but I was sure glad she thought of it!

Today, The Girl told me that I have been bugging the cats too much, and that's a sure sign I haven't had enough exercise. Now, I agree that there has been a serious lack of exercise lately, but there's no such thing as bugging the cats too much. If they'd just play with me, I'd be happy.

Anyway, Girlie said that even though her "too-doo" list is as long as her arm, we had to go out and get some fresh air. Today was sunny and no sign of rain, so she got my leash and took me out to my car again! Two days in a row!

And guess where we ended up? At the DOG PARK!!!! Not the new one that The Girl is so excited about, though. We went to the old standby one out by the airport, because it's way bigger and Girlie said that I needed to get some exercise. And her, too.

I was so excited when we got there! I would love to show you how excited I was, but The Girl forgot the camera again. We did lots of walking and sniffing, and I did lots of peeing. She claimed that I had to be empty with nothing left to pee, but what does she know? She doesn't even know how to leave pee-mail.

There were lots of other doggies there, too. Even doggies that are bigger than me! The Girl wasn't sure about them, but I was a Very Good Dawg and greeted them all nicely. I even asked one of them to play chase with me, but he had to go home with his people. I let the other doggies sniff at me, and didn't react even when one of them yelled at me. His lady scolded him. The Girl told her that I would take care of myself if I was offended, but I just turned away and sniffed another doggy. Girlie kept saying how proud she was of me.

We didn't even have our cell phone with us so The Girl could capture me grinning and laughing with joy. But it was such a good Adventure! I guess Girlie isn't so bad, after all. I wonder where we'll go tomorrow?

I keep telling The Girl that we're behind on my furends' bloggies. She says sorry again, we'll catch up eventually. I have to add to that, we'll probably fall behind again as soon as we catch up. I think I need a voice recognition thingy for the laptop, so I could just wrooooo my posts and bypass The Girl altogether!

When life interrupts...

Hello, everybody, The Girl here. Hijacking the blog from the dog for a minute.

Dannan hasn't posted in a few days, and it's not his fault. (He said to say that, even though I told him that everybody would know that it was my fault!) I've had a serious case of life interrupting our blogging life. I wish I could vent here, but I can't. So, enough said.

We did get out for some pictures today. It's been cold and icky and windy and rainy lately. I'll let Dannan post the pictures tomorrow. He finally got an Adventure today, which made today the most exciting day in what he thinks is forever.

Two little stories from me, before I give back the blog. First, today I put some chicken in to bake in the oven. I had taken it out, but forgot to turn off the oven. Dannan was sitting beside me, making the biggest pest of himself. He didn't want to go outside; he didn't want to go into the Bunker (the bathroom: his safety zone from noises like fireworks); he didn't want to be in our bedroom. He didn't want to go outside. As far as I could tell, he didn't want anything at all!

I went into the kitchen to get a drink of water, and he followed me out. I felt the heat as soon as I passed the stove, and turned off the oven. As soon as I did, Dannan hopped off to the bedroom to lie down. I had finally done what he was telling me to do, as near as I can figure. What a dog!

The other little story has to do with our time in the backyard today. Like I said, it's been chilly and icky lately, but it wasn't raining and Dannan was a little stir-crazy. So I took him outside, and stayed out there with him. (He's always much happier to have a person out there when he's out, especially on days with nasty weather potential. He just likes company.) I wore my thick winter jacket, a hat, and took a fleece blanket out to cover my legs while I sat watching him. He did his thing for a bit, scowled at me for taking pictures, and then settled down on the ground about six feet away from me.

We sat out there for a while. Then I noticed that he was shivering a bit. So I asked him if he was cold, and should we go in the house to warm up? Up he hopped, and went straight to the door. I had to laugh: I was out there, keeping him company; and he was out there, keeping me company! What a silly pair, both of us shivering because we each thought the other wanted to be outside!

Dannan will be back tomorrow. He is skeptical, but I'll show him!

An award! I love awards!

Wroo, everypuppy and kitty!

Our good furend, Ruby, gave us this award! We are so honoured to be given this, so many thanks to Ruby!

We're supposed to put the rules up, too, so here they are:
  • - put the award on your blog
  • - put a link to the blogfriends who gave it to you
  • - choose 10 other blogfriends to give the award to
  • - post links of nominees I'm passing this award on to.

The Girl and I have tried to send this award along to people that we don't think have it yet. If you already do, then you're awarded again!

We'd like to pass this award along to:
Boo Boo
River
Stella
Poppy
Opy (and Charlie, too!)
Gussie and Teka
The Thundering Herd (which takes me over ten, technically, BOL!)
Nanook and Pooka (I don't know if they know me, but I'm totally a fan of theirs!)
Mona and the Mommy
and last (but NEVER least!), Grumpy Bobby!

Many of you commented on my Wordless Wednesday picture, where it looks like I have only two leggies! The Girl didn't even notice that! But today, she decided to look through the most recent pictures she's taken of me to see how many more times that's happened.

This one, if you look close, you can see my third footie-foot...

In this one, I only have one leggy! BOL!

We've included this one only because it shows (sort of) how I stand on my three leggies. You can only see two leggies here, but if you imagine my other back leggy on the other side of my tail, you can see how I stand with them in sort of a triangle. (Wroo, Lexi is standing freezing in this picture, too. You can only see three of her leggies, BOL! She's got four, in case you're wondering!)

TRIPODS RULE!!! Wrooooooooo!

Wordless Wednesday

Can't catch me!

Wrooo, everydoggy and kitty! The Girl and I went outside on Monday, for my kind of photoshoot.

(By the way, my good furend, Dozer, asked in comments about my last post if I was getting treats in return for poses. In fact, I was getting some very delicious turkey jerky. I just hate posing, and I hate it more everytime she makes me do it! I figure that if I pout and scowl enough, she'll give up. I think I'm more stubborn than she is, anyway.)

So The Girl decided yesterday that we'd go out and get some "action shots". Which means that she's trying to capture me in all my running glory. And not doing a very good job at it, because she knows next to nothing about taking pictures. But I had a lot of fun, which is really all that matters, right?

Here I am, running away from The Girl. Sorry it's blurry.

Another shot of me running away. Check out my ears flying!

This is a shot of me, when I'm waaaayyyyy outside of the frame. Too slow, Girlie!

And her timing here isn't much better. Can't catch me! I'm the Gingerbread Dog! (Yummmm, I think I would like gingerbread. I wonder if The Girl will make me some.)

At least here she shows some of my way-cool motion a little bit better, even though it's kind of blurry, too.

And here's one last shot of me running away. I notice that it's blurry, too. No gingerbread for The Girl!

The Girl would also like to apologize for the sad state of the yard. I don't really know what she means by that, but she said that there is no better way to realize how the yard really looks than to see it through the photo editor (which she really only uses to crop and rotate).

We do read the comments that come as they come into our email inbox. We just are not managing very well to actually reply to them. We're hoping to get around to read everypuppy and kitty's blog later tonight, or tomorrow night at the latest. I'm not sure how to train The Girl to do this more often. Positive reinforcement is only getting me so far. I wonder if she'd be more trainable if she didn't have opposable thumbs???
