snow day!

Wrooooooooo! The bloggy is back under my control! Happy Fur-iday, evfurryone!

I am giddy, can you tell? It's because it's been snowing all morning! All three of us doggies went outside today, even couch potato Khavana! And The Girl took pictures to prove it!

I have to survey my dogdom!

Here's one for the album, Girlie! There was a snow flake on the lens, which is too bad. The Girl thinks it might have been a nice one for cropping.

There's Khavana, trying to sneak out of the frame. I think she thinks she has a rep to protect, or something!

This was going to be a better shot of Khav, but between The Girl pushing the little silver button and the picture taking, look who roared through the frame!

This bunch of straw-y stuff is up against one of our fences. I had to take a look into the neighbour's yard. Just part of the job, ma'am.

The Girl wanted us to run and let he take more pictures. But there was something out on the road somewhere, and we all had to go to the gate to bark. (The Girl just wants to note, nothing was there.)

The Girl loves pictures of trees and bushes that are newly frosted with snow. I wasn't cooperating about getting a good shot of me against them in the background! There were no treats, you know!

The Girl thinks this is such a good picture of my face! Of course it is, Girlie - I am the handsome one!

Losing patience with all the pictures...

The Girl wants you to check out all the snow on the bushes. It would be more impressive if she'd managed to get the shot she wanted, BOL!

We've all had enough and want in. See, even Lexi was out there, even though she stayed at the door for most of the time.

The Girl would like to send out big hugs and thanks to everyone who left comments on her blog post the other day. She says that she treasures each and every one of you, and your kind and loving words made her so happy!

In other news, our good furend Bruno from the Canine Mafioso was just in to the vet to have a tumour removed. They are waiting to find out whether it is benign, so if you could go over and leave some good thoughts for them, I know they'd appreciate it. I'm sending brown dog determination at the tumour, informing it that it MUST be benign.

Our photo essay dedicated to Pink Ducky seems to have been a success! We don't have a video camera, so that's as close as we can come (for now!) to posting a video. The Girl is investigating ways to get a video camera, so stay tuned!

OMDog, I am so excited about our upcoming interview with PetDoc! It's an email interview, and we got the questions this morning. Now I just have to get Girlie to answer them! We'll let you know when it will be posted.

Tomorrow, The Girl is co-hosting a Holiday Open House at the Kamloops SPCA. I have not been invited. Girlie says that maybe Santa Paws will bring me a belly band, and then maybe I can go with her to things like this. Then on Sunday, our dog training group is having a holiday party, too! I don't think I get to go to that one, either. I'm getting a lot better, but I'm still sometimes quite reactive to other doggies. The Girl says that maybe we'll ask the Roomie to come with us, and I can stay for a little while. Then the Roomie can just bring me home before I get too over-stimulated. The party is at the training centre not far from our house, so The Girl might even just run me home herself.

I hope all my furends have an EXCELLENT weekend, full of snow or not! (I know some of you are not snow dogs, Joe! But I know some doggies like the Thundering Herd will be furry disappointed if there's not a bunch of white stuff on the ground and falling from the sky!)

And finally, The Girl and I would like to say something to the troll that left mean comments on the most beautiful post on the blog belonging to Sunny and Scooter and Jamie (the Texas Sundogs): If you are reading our bloggy, read this. Your comments were inappropriate and uncalled for. You may not agree with the post or it's sentiments, but that's no reason to be a troll. We get back what we give out, and karma bites hard. We don't know if you follow our bloggy, but we don't need traffic like that. We encourage you to apologize to our furends.

Happy Fur-iday, evfurryone!

My first snail mail Christmas Card, and The Snow is All My Fault

Wroooooooo, efurrybody! Hope all my American furends had a wonderful Thanksgiving with lots of eatables! The Girl said that the reason we had no turkey yesterday is that we celebrated Thanksgiving in October. I fail to see what that has to do with anything! We still could have had turkey!!

I got my furst Christmas card in the snail mail! It is from Simba. I was so ecstatic that I had to go Upside Down!

Please ignore the hooman leg and slipper at the bottom. The Girl says she's done enough secretary stuff for me today, and she refused to do any photo-editing. I am skeptical of this, however. The secretary stuff she did for me earlier today was stuff she had PROMISED to have done by Tuesday - writing on and addressing my snail mail Christmas cards! She FINALLY got them done today, and will mail them tomorrow. TOMORROW, Girlie!

I also got quite a few e-cards, which I will bark about in my next post. Hopefully tomorrow.

In other news, it is all my fault that it has been snowing since this morning. It was snowing when we got up at 7:00 am, and it is STILL snowing! That's NINE straight hours of snow! Very unusual for here.

The reason (The Girl) says it's my fault is because I just commented on Bolo's bloggy yesterday that we didn't have any snow. She likes the snow, but really hates how people drive in it. And she hates shovelling it, too. So she likes winters that are not snowy. Except for Christmas. She likes a White Christmas.

I, on the other hand, was SO EXCITED that I ran back and forth (like a maniac, according to The Girl) and back and forth and back and forth! I made The Girl take pictures.

Here's me on the way out...

And on the way back in....

Back out...

And me and Lexi on the way back in again. (Well, all you can see is my tail. The Girl sometimes misses the picture she thinks she's going to take.)

Khavana is the worst couch potato you can imagine. She didn't come out with us. She never does! She only wants to go outside first thing in the morning, and right after supper. She totally misses out.

Once I had done my running (I always have to race back and forth, and back and forth when I'm excited!), I stopped to smell the snow.

And then we have the series of pictures where The Girl was trying to get a shot of me covered in snow...

We didn't stay out long enough for me to get really snowy, though. The Girl picked up our newspapers, and we went back inside.

I have the feeling that there was something I was going to mention in this post, but I can't seem to remember it. My memory is becoming as bad as The Girl's! BOL!

The Girl is going to Vancouver for a furry quick trip on Wednesday. I told her that she should visit Sparky and Lizzie, but she says she doesn't think there will be time. She and The Roomie are going to a Great Big Sea concert on Wednesday night, and coming back the next day. I am going to stay with my Nanny and Papa overnight. I've never done that before, so I'm a little nervous. So is The Girl. She is really such a big softy. Always before, I've stayed with The Roomie when The Girl has gone out of town. But I guess I can't do that this time, since The Roomie is going, too!

So far, the plan for the weekend is for The Girl and I to go over to Nanny and Papa's for Saturday and Sunday night. The Girl has to work at the SPCA Craft Fair on Sunday, so she thought staying with them while she was gone would be a good way to ease into things. But she keeps looking out the window at the snow, and saying things like, it better stop soon! We have had a little snow once earlier this winter, but it was melted by noon. The Girl says hoomans drive really dumb during the first big snowfall. I think she's trying to get out of going to mail my Christmas cards.

There doesn't seem to be turkey again tonight. I am disappointed, because I made it clear yesterday that we can have turkey when it's not Thanksgiving! If The Girl leaves the house tomorrow, I'll tell her to stop at the grocery store and get some!

Min Pin Monday, for one week only!

Hi, everypuppy and kitty. I am allowing The Girl to post pictures of the Min Pins today. But they are NOT writing the entry, and they are also NOT getting a regular feature! Just so we're all clear that this is out of the goodness of my heart, never to be repeated!

Lexi and Khavana sometimes sleep touching each other. Most of the time, though, they have standoffs. Three years in, and they still haven't worked out who's the boss. Of them. I, of course, am the boss of everyone. (The Girl - Keep dreamin', bud!)

Min Pin destruction.

Butt sniffing. Very popular at our house. Probably also at yours.

Khavana doesn't fit under the couch very well, but she does try! Note the Min Pin destruction of the couch liner.

This is Lexi, apparently forgetting what breed she is.

According to Lexi, the best thing about outside is hunting for bugs and other eatables. This is what she does outside.

Lexi is a wimpy dog who has to wear a coat. (The Girl - Lexi gets very cold very easily. Her fur isn't very thick. She spends a lot of time lying on the furnace vent in the winter.)

This is the Brat lying in MY DOG BED.

And this is a picture of Lexi as a pup. Funny looking little thing, don'tcha think?

As mentioned above, there will be no more Min Pin Mondays. Just all Dannan, all the time!

(The Girl - We might find room for the odd post about the Min Pins. Don't tell Dannan!

Also, thanks again to everyone for your good thoughts about The Roomie's brother. We'll know more about his condition tonight.)

Min Pin Roundup

I happened to mention on my other blog, The Muse Asylum, that I live with two Min Pins. One of my readers (OMG, I can't believe that I have READERS!) asked for some pictures, as she used to live with a Min Pin, too. So I posted a long post about Lexi and Khavana; if you'd like to see it, just go here. I don't know an easy way to post it over here, sorry!

khavana

Today, I am devoting my post to Khavana, a.k.a. Khavana Banana, Banana-dog, Banana-head, and Khav. Khavana is eight years old, and she truly is as cute as can be. You, dear reader, will not be able to tell that, because of two factors. One, I am an indifferent photographer at best (which I believe I've mentioned at least a dozen times by now). And two, because Khavana is the most un-photogenic dog I have ever encountered. She looks so adorable, so we snap a picture, but the picture does not reflect her real self. Ever.

So last night, she had been outside having a blast, and came in with her super-cute grin that she wears when she's had the Best Time Ever. The following collection of sad photos are my attempts to capture the cuteness of Khav. And as you will see, my attempts failed dramatically.

In the first picture, we see that Khavana is just like all the other dogs and children in the world, in that she does the exact opposite of what you want them to do when you take their picture.

In this picture, she is sending me nasty messages in her brain.

She appeals to her Mom, make the crazy lady stop!

She is so overcome by the horrors. she has fallen over.

Well, at least her mouth is open in this shot...

I thinks she's swearing at me.

Definitely complaining to Karen about what I'm subjecting her to.

If I wish really hard, her head will explode....

You can't see it here, but Karen is trying really hard to distract Khavana from the fact I'm taking her picture, because as soon as her attention is away from me, she resumes grinning. While I'm waiting for the camera to get itself ready for a new shot. When I can't actually take a shot.

I think this is as close as I can get...

Screwed-up face again...

Stop testing me, woman. You will live to regret it!

The final attempt. Which is actually pretty cute, but soooo not what I was trying to capture!

Also, today is Lexi's birthday, so happy day, little one. She's five! And it is also Karen's cat's tenth birthday, so happy day to Hailey, too.

Because I'm on my new laptop, and I have so far been too busy playing around to transfer over all the pictures from Karen's laptop, there are no pictures of Hailey to post. But here's a cute one of Lexi:

It's not easy... when the batteries take a holiday

Well, so much for blogging everyday. The day after I started this blog, the battery in the camera died, the battery pack for the laptop died... Then I got the flu. So, not so much a daily blog so far.

But we did go out the day after my first post, before the batteries all died, and we took some pictures. Our backyard is not as pretty as a picture, so just look at the dogs. :)

(Also, you should know that Dannan and I have not yet developed a reliable "come in from the backyard". For him, nothing is better than outside. So he drags a long line when he is in the backyard. He actually comes pretty predictably when he's wearing the long line, because he knows I can catch him. When he's not wearing a long line, I haven't got a hope in hell. So any of you who wonder how fast a three-legged dog can run, take my word for it: damn fast!)

So here is Dannan outside. Our packmate (and roommate) Lexi, a Miniature Pinscher, is also outside with us. Our other canine packmember Khavana, also a MinPin, wouldn't deign to come out with us, so I've thrown in a few pictures from other times.
(You'll see that the pictures are not in the order I wanted them to be in. I am having issues figuring out how to add photos to blog entries; bear with me and I'll figure them out. But having uploaded them all, I'm not going to go back and re-do it all. Now that I know that I need to upload them in backward order, things will go more smoothly next time.)

About face! There must be a bird!
Birds are one of Dannan's passions. He love to chase them as they run through the yard. I know that I shouldn't let him do it, but he gets so much joy from it that I can't bring myself to try to stop him. If a bird is sitting in one of our many trees, he will stand below it and "woooo woooo" it, trying to convince the bird to fly so he can give chase.
This is Lexi:
And this is Khavana, who is pretending to be bashful:
Khavana is the oldest dog in our pack, even though she was the third one to join. Karen brought her into our lives in November of 2005, while Lexi was already with Karen when Dannan came along.

While Dannan chases birds, this is what Lexi is usually doing:
Lexi loves to look for bugs, and worms, and whatever else she can find in the grass. She just puts her nose to the ground and exults in all the smells.
The other thing Lexi loves to do outside, when she's not on smell-patrol, is to bask in the sun.

But there are always more bugs to be had...

Dannan has found a bird:
Happy dog.

There *is* a bird, I'm telling you! (The blur at his tail is because he wags furiously when birding!)

More bliss...

He is always alert to possible sightings:
"Woooo wooooo!"

Trying to get the bird to fly...

Also that day, Dannan found a spot that seems to have something good going on. He has been back to this spot every single day since:
This was supposed to be the first photo!

Back to that spot...

"Oh, I think I hear a birdie!"

All in all, it was a pretty good day. Birds to chase (and serenade!), smells to sniff, places to dig... What more could a dog want?
My next post will be all about the week when my out-of-town siblings were here; Dannan got so much love (and so many treats!) that he needed his own vacation when it was all over! He also had a GREAT adventure, so tune in soon!
